MINISTER APOLOGISES OVER CABINET OFFICE TIMBER
The government has admitted to misleading parliament over the origins of wood used in the cabinet office refurbishment.
The cabinet office was invaded on 10th April 2002 by Greenpeace protesters (TTJ April 13) claiming the sapele being used in doors and windows was logged in a Cameroon rain forest. The government insisted the timber was sustainably sourced and certified but Cabinet Office Minister Christopher Leslie has now apologised, saying the contract had not required all timber to be from a certified renewable source.
