MAJOR ACCESS EVENTS CAN BOOST LOCAL EARNINGS
The recent Mountain Bike World Cup event in Lochaber brought an estimated £600,000 into local businesses, helped by landowners who gave permission for the event to cross their ground.
Cycling, long distance riding and sponsored walks can often be acceptable forms of access with minimal disruption, especially if routes are over established forestry roads.
Major events also help the local rural economy, from farmhouse B&B to the local shops and restaurants.
