HEALTH AND SAFETY
A former agricultural worker has recently been awarded £2.7 million in compensation after he fell through an unsafe roof in 1994 and suffered a fractured skull.
He had received no training and no safety equipment was provided before he carried out repairs to the barn roof.
Health and safety assessment of yards and buildings should help to highlight potential risks and help to minimise any dangers.
The issue of building quality is viewed as being a burden to the farmer but a quality set of buildings is an asset to any business. Safe working practices must be adhered to in the use of all equipment, including buildings.
