WINDFARM DEVELOPMENT EXHIBITIONS START TODAY (4TH SEPTEMBER)

Posted on

In mid-July, Moray Council requested a moratorium on windfarm applications, calling on the Scottish Government to agree to freeze all applications for windfarm developments within Moray until a public consultation on new policy guidance is completed.

In justifying this action, the Council stated that it felt it would be inconsistent to accept new applications while the public’s views were being sought on the future of wind energy developments.

The Council’s existing policy guidance on wind energy was drawn up in 2005, since when the sector has moved on significantly and there has been much debate about the potential impact of wind turbines on the landscape.

A draft document has already been approved by Committee and it is this document, which contains guidance on dealing with applications for onshore wind turbines, that is now open for public consultation.

Once the consultation is complete, a further report will go before Councillors, summarising the comments received prior to a final document being approved.

From that point onwards, once finally approved, the new guidance will be treated as a material consideration in determining planning applications for all wind turbines over 20 metres in height. As a result, it is important that all these who wish to comment, make their representation to the Council by 14th September 2012.

Moray Council are particularly keen to hear the opinions of individual members of the public, as well as community councils and other interested groups. A dedicated webpage has therefore been set up, containing all Council policy documents relating to wind turbine planning. This page also includes a link to the online comment form.

Drop-in exhibitions will also be held at the following venues between 2.30-8.30pm on the dates detailed below:-

4th September – Fleming Hall, Aberlour
5th September – Elgin Town Hall, Supper Room
6th September – Longmore Hall, Keith
10th September – Forres Town Hall, Lesser Hall

At Bowlts Chartered Surveyors, we have wide experience in advising on renewable energy projects and a highly experienced Planning Department who would be happy to assist in making representations to Moray Council.

The public consultation runs until 5pm on 14th September 2012.
